What I do - Hypno-CBT

The goal of my work as a qualified Hypno-CBT therapist (as in all of the therapies that I offer) is to guide you towards your optimal mind-body health. This method utilises the present-oriented, problem-solving focused work of cognitive behavioural therapy combined with hypnotherapy to help you reach agreed-upon therapy goals. We will start with an initial (free) consultation, and you will be asked to fill out some forms for me. All of our communication is confidential and all information received from you will be treated in accordance with GDPR standards.

 

Hypnotherapy is a clinically proven method that focuses attention, increases the suggestibility and openness to receive the positive statements that are agreed upon during the session, and creates a safe space for making positive changes. The work is multi-modal, meaning that we look at emotions, behaviour and cognitions and how you can shift all three to reach your goal. You will learn how to relax your body and mind and increase mind-body awareness. You decide what to accept, imagine and change within the sessions. 

 

Once basic skills for self-hypnosis and imagination are developed, we will work on using your imagination and the increased suggestibility found in hypnosis to shift thinking, feeling and behavioural habits and patterns, guiding you towards your desired outcome. This could include desensitisation to anxiety-producing situations, exposure therapy and mood induction to help you manage strong emotions, just to name a few. We will work together to help you self-regulate your emotions, to recognise that emotions are information and are not bad or harmful. 

 

We will work together to uncover the negative core beliefs and how those negatively affect your emotions, behaviour and thoughts. We will utilise hypnosis as well as skills training and 'homework' to help you gain mastery over your thoughts, feelings and unwanted behaviours/habits.We will test out the truth and efficacy of the negative thoughts that we get stuck in, and find adaptive, helpful thoughts to replace the negative ones though techniques like thought stopping and habit reversal. Though the work is goal-specific, the outcome will have positive effects in all other areas of your life.
